Dr. Martha Cortes DDS

Clinical Advisory Board

Dr. Martha Cortés, president and owner of Sleep Fitness, LLC, has been in private practice for general, cosmetic and periodontal laser dentistry, as well as biological neuromuscular dentistry, in New York City, for the past 30 years. Her objective is to enhance the well-being of her patients by using biologically friendly materials and methods, along with the most advanced equipment and techniques. She also provides therapy for craniofacial pain, upper airway resistance syndrome and sleep breathing disorders for children and adults. In addition, Dr. Cortés has been treating TMJ disorders and facial cervical/myofascial pain, neuralgias and neuropathies for the past 20 years through orthotics and full mouth reconstruction. In the past 10 years, she has chosen to enhance her practice through orthopedic and orthodontic therapy for TMJ, sleep breathing disorders, and the treatment of neuralgias and neuropathies through craniofacial – airway expansion and cervical – postural – remodeling.

Craniofacial Development

  • Published Articles – accepted evidence for the growth of the maxilla and upper airways in the treatment towards reversal of obstructive sleep apnea and upper airway resistance syndrome in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine – presentations 2016, 2017 & 2018.
  • Treatment of patients with Craniocervical pain, including seizure disorders, dystonia, chronic pain, and chronic headaches. Pending article – pilot studies – evidence for the growth of the maxilla and upper airways in treatment of reversal of Craniocervical pain through the International Association of the Study of Pain – 2018.
  • The first to spearhead the training for the Vivos (Biomodeling) certified instructor’s dentists since 2012, as well as the first certified instructor, in the United States, in clinical pediatrics and adults for Vivos, with training from her mentor Dr. Singh.
  • Certified instructor (teaching in NY) for the 2-Day Fast Track Biomimetic Oral Appliance Therapy program for Vivos. Dr. Cortés has been training dentists in the field of epigenetics orthopedic and orthodontic therapy in the reversal of sleep breathing disorders for adults and children from 2012 – present.

Neuromuscular Dentistry

  • Completed the curriculum at Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVIADS) in temporomandibular disorders and full mouth reconstruction where she earned her fellowship from the Las Vegas Institute.
  • Earned a mastership from The International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics (ICCMO) after research and publishing her thesis – Cannot have a Final Bite When Cervical is Still Off.
  • Acts as USA Regent on the board of ICCMO.

Integrative Medicine

  • Board member for the Global Foundation of Integrative Medicine (GFIM) and serves as the Dental Wellness Clinical Advisor. Lecturer in the GFIM annual meetings on biological dentistry in integrative medicine for the betterment of health of patients since 2008 – present.
  • Lectured in the annual conference for the American Academy of Naturopathic Medicine representing dentistry on biologically correct dentistry in functional naturopathic medicine – including laser assisted dentistry to reduce the load of infection in the gateway to the health in the mouth – working a part of a team for reversing disease in patients, from 1999-2001.
  • Since the late 1980’s Dr. Cortés has practiced whole-body health in functional medicine. She has had the privilege to work with world-renowned doctors in reversing aging, and disease.
    • She has been a guest on Dr. Atkins Radio in reference to periodontal disease and its association with heart disease – and dental solutions as part of the complete dental treatment. She has worked with Dr. Atkins on detoxification through infusions, combined with holistic and biological dental methods including infection control with laser assisted periodontal and surgical techniques.
    • Cortes has worked with Dr. Jeffery Bland in metagenics in functional medicine, and then with Dr. Bob Marshall with Quantum Reflex Analysis in alternative medicine.
    • Paul Yanick and Dr. Cortés co-authored co-discoveries on vagal nerve dysfunction and parafunction.
    • Cortés is currently working with Doctor’s Klinghart, Gedroic, and Lancaster in whole-body health in functional medicine.


  • Cortés is the current president of the New York Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She has been combining smile makeovers and epigenetic orthopedic airway expansion while reversing sleep apnea, TMD and craniofacial mandibular cervical pain and alleviating headaches. For the past three years Dr. Cortés has presented cases she likes to call “Natural Facelifts” with orthopedic orthodontic techniques – treating TMD, sleep apnea and sleep breathing disorders with the New York Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry at the Greater New York Dental Meeting since 2012.
  • She is a previous board member and president of the New York Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She speared headed the membership from 50 members to 300 plus members through a successful cosmetic teaching series and annual meetings in 1993-1996 held in NYC.
  • She helped spread the international and global branding of AACD serving as the International Chair – creating a meeting of simultaneous translation of the annual meeting in Spanish and French – created international chapters and seeds as well as increased members from 300 to 3000 in 3-5 years.
  • She has been doing cosmetic makeovers since 1985 – making her own veneers in dental school. She has been doing smile makeovers for 29 years and has been one of the first 100 in the country to be accredited.
  • Cortes has served as the Co-Chair of Dentistry of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.
  • She has taught cosmetic dentistry to her colleagues – post 2 years general residency at Mount Sinai Medical. For two years, while in dental school, Dr. Cortés worked in sales for Huerius-Kulzer – she taught various dentists bonding as well as how to make free hand composite veneers (1979-1981).

    • Provides services for general, cosmetic and laser dentistry and holistic treatment.
    • Provides services for craniofacial pain and sleep breathing disorders in patients as well as optimizing a patient’s own anatomy and physiology.
    • Promotes health and disease prevention since 1987-1989, and last 25 years in infection control through laser periodontal/surgical/endodontic procedures combined with modified life style dieting and nutritional changes. Dr. Cortés has worked in prevention and reversing disease and aging with Drs. Robert Atkins, Patrick Fratalone, Bob Marshall, Paul Yanick and Jeffrey Bland (through teaching in functional medicine).
    • Provides Laser Frenectomy on children and adults to improve craniofacial outcomes.
    • Published articles in magazines and media, as well as interviewee on wellness and sleep medicine. Interviewed on radio and television.


    Dr. Cortés has received multiple diplomats from different academies and strives to assist her patients with their conditions and health issues.
